Dark YA Blogfest #3 – Casting & Music
This is the week I was most looking forward to in the Dark YA blogfest. And, since I have a dark YA book coming out soon, I figured it was a chance to share my casting choices and my playlist for HUSHED.
CASTING

Archer – Steven R. McQueen
Out of the three main characters in HUSHED, Archer was the hardest for me to cast. Although Steven McQueen doesn’t have quite the slender build, and his eyes are the wrong color, it was ultimately his facial expressions that won me over. He does kicked-puppy and uncertain-smile so well.
Vivian – Elisabeth Harnois
Vivian was the easiest. Elisabeth is one of my favorite actresses. She plays sweet and innocent just as well as she plays vicious and manipulative…all while having the most angelic face. (And will you believe she’s like 30-something?? She still plays teenage roles and looks out of place as an adult…)
Evan – Matt Lanter
Another case of perfect facial expressions. Matt’s kind of a goofball, even in a lot of his roles. Besides that, he’s got the nice body going for him and the absolutely adorable smile.
MUSIC
Music plays a big part in my writing. HUSHED especially had an influential soundtrack, and a number of songs I listened to over and over (and over) again through various scenes.

Awesome choices, now I REALLY want to read that!
Thanks, Heather! :D
This cast sort of rules…but is it bad that I really, really wanted Evan to be black???
Thanks! And LOL, no, that’s not bad. ;) That’s the problem with sharing casting choices. Everyone pictures the characters differently in their own heads and I’m a bit vague with my character descriptions for that reason.
That’s one HOT cast! :)
Loving the fact that Placebo’s up on that list.
Thanks, Bee! :)
I’m not a huge Placebo fan, but they’ve got a number of songs I really, really like.
I chose Evan, high five.
Yes, yes you did. After we stared at many, many people for ages.
I don’t even remember who all we went through before we were both satisfied. Just that… it still wasn’t as difficult as deciding someone for Col–I mean Archer.
No, Mister Archer took forever and a day.
Wow – extensive playlist. I love that MCR song. I can hear that in a lot of YA movies. IN fact I think you could write a novel based on that album
Sigh. Love the Evan choice.
Isn’t he adorable??
Howie Day – Collide n Somewhere Only We Know and really do fit with archer and evan
Yes, they do. :)
I picked the characters and music for my own book too. :)Only, mine isn’t coming out, or even published like yours. ;)
I like the pictures and the music list. Funny how seeing the author’s idea of characters and background music makes you want to read the book even more.
Nothing wrong with that! I’ve posted playlists and casting choices for my unpubbed stories before. ;) It’s a good mental/creative exercise, if nothing else.
I know! I’m enjoying seeing the lists and choices for books I haven’t read. It’s actually made me want to read books I skimmed over before.
I was surprised at how few people actually posted cast lists instead of soundtracks this week. You had some great music here – thanks for sharing!
I figured I’d be safe and post both. ;) Thanks!!
